  • Coring strawberries

As the strawberry glut is soon upon us (hopefully) I have found a great way to core strawberries using a drinking straw. Some of you may already know but I have tried it today and feel quite evangelistic about it:

Poke a drinking straw in the middle of the strawberry from the bottom to the top and voila! out comes the straw with the top leaves and the core - peasy

But the core only goes part way down - doesn't this waste the bottom part of the strawberry which isn't core at all? I just flick them out with my thumb nail although I think that this is easier with some varieties than others.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

It's only a tiny bit of waste Alison and if, like me, you have no nails it is much easier than taking a knife to it

Great tip, but my strawberries are just going to end up eaten off the plant so I'll just eat them all minus the green bits!
