  • Compost Bins

Just found this online...Thought it might be useful for anyone looking for cheap compost bins...They run this in conjunction with local authorities and so the bins are heavily subsidised
    I've ordered mine!

Got two, we call them the Daleks. Still get better results from my traditional homemade wooded square effort, though

Just noticed that Leeds council are offering subsidised bins. I think at £8. Got to be worth taking up their offer.

Contacted these people the other day - you are entitled to 3 free dalek type bins. I've just ordered another two! Speedy delivery - they said 28 days, but they arrived within 3 days. Very nice people too - gave me encouraging comments regarding my lottie when I told them what I wanted the bins for. Bernie aka Dexterdog

I got 2 more a while ago, bringing my Dalek total up to three.

It's a great idea and more people should be encouraged to compost!

                  Hi
I'm a new subscriber to this site and still trying to find my way about. Thanks for the link, I followed it eventually to Flintshire (where I live) and they have the 'Daleks' on offer for £20 each. I'll contact the council to see if their offer still stands. Just looked at the weather forcast on the beeb, thing is Lookin' up. Cheers.

Just to let you know, my Dalek is working super-fast in this warm (but wet) weather. I fill it up to the brim, and a week later it is only half-full. Cool!
to ensure a mix of brown/green items, i wrap my kitchen scraps in a sheet or two of newspaper - make disposal easier too, in a nice little parcel.

It def. helps to lift the whole Dalek off now and again to turn over the contents, and replace

Just visited the site and ordered another Dalek and a kitchen bin (I'm using an old Tupperware tub but we drink so much tea and my other half eats oranges like they're going out of fashion that I have to empty and wash it every dayor it stinks like noone's business!)

I was digging out my Dalek the other day and I had to get down on my hands and knees to reach the bits at the back.....needless to say that I dislodged a big chunk and the whole lot came down on my head and shoulders! Lovely I smelt like I'd been at a festival again haha

Everdream78, its a shame nobody filmed that, would have been a cracker.

Dont faff about trying to poke stuff out that silly little hatch, just pull your bin up over your heap. Much easier.

                            P.s Welcome to the vine.
