  • Calender on when to plant things

    Hi All

As I have just got my plot, I am doing some homework at the moment sifting through books and websites getting info for reference on when to sow seeds and plant things out for the veggie patch.

There must be a quicker way............... does anyone know of any quick reference guide on when to sow seeds, what season etc?

I would appreciate your help with this.

    Nicola

A number of ways you can sort yourself out with this one, NSB
    • magazines like GYO have a 'what to do this month' section
    • most veg books have a month by month guide
    • you can get hold of a wallchart with what to sow when....in fact, isn't there one to download that I've seen on a previous thread? Worth doing a search for, and I'm sure you can print something off

Get hold of a wallchart, or good reference book. Then, when you start collecting seeds (as we all do) buy one of those cheap organiser wallets from Woolies with 12 or so divider pockets. Label each pocket with a month and put your seed packets in the appropriate pocket. Works well as long as you remember to keep checking.

All the above, plus take a chance on some things. Just bung them in, late or not, and see what happens

Actually, what I did earlier this year was to get an old unused diary, and logged the seeds I had by sow in each month then harvest by month by month. I think its worked! Bernie

                            Dig for Victory

I know I'm quite late to this thread - but thought I'd share.

"Dig for Victory" was the campaign during World War 2 for allotments and growing your own. Very good and simple A4 leaflet.

This shows : selection of crops, distance and depth to plant and also show's rotation plans

I downloaded and printed out a copy and then laminated at work. It's pride of place on my shed wall!

Just need to google "Dig of Victory" and should find your own copy or look at http://www.earthlypursuits.com/Allot...ctory1_1-4.htm

                            How this is useful

I love these leaflets and although the planting spaces etc don't always apply to me (i use the bed method and usually plant closer than recommended I use them as a great reference, plus I just like 'em!
