Default ooh la la

If anyone is going across the channel on hols, look at the gardening section in the hypermarkets. They seem pretty keen on growing stuff over there and I bought two poly tunnel cloches 1.5m x 9m completed with hoops for the equivalent of £5.50 each. There were also seeds, fleece and other stuff. If you do go - go south it rained all the time we were there!

Oooh yes, I have to agree with Bramble - ripped off in England.... absolutely not compared to here!

Took a trip to England a few weeks back... went to Tesco's and felt like I was on another planet - the prices were unbelievable for some items... stocked the car and came back home with all sorts of goodies!

Bi Jeyzus Slug & Bramble ... best not go there I think, don't want to cause offence !!!

I guess we moan about prices here & don't give a though to you guys.

I've always wondered why magazines cost so much in Ireland. After all the postal rates are the same for thewhole of the EEC aren't they?

Nick the price of magazines in Ireland is so much more because of taxation.

We get taxed on LOTS of stuff here!!! Any magazine you can buy - is sooo much more expensive here (and no... its not just the cost of the postage over!).

Car tax is much worse than in the UK - I'm about to renew my car tax and it'll cost me 484 Euro!!! Alcohol is also very heavily taxed (not that it bothers me that much as I don't drink very often)

Having said that.... we don't pay extortionate council tax rates like in the UK, so I guess the tax money has to come from somewhere.... and also, it's a lovely country to live in (I'm not originally from here, so I'm not being biased!!) and I wouldn't swap it for anywhere else to live!

A bit like here really - sometimes you wonder if they still remember we are part of the UK. We have the dearest petrol in the UK and most of it comes through the north end of our Island!

Like you Slug, took a trip to Mainland Scotland and couldn't believe the prices.

PS It will be interesting to see Nick's reply to this one. Can you do Shetland dialect He he

I will say actually that our petrol (well, here in Waterford!) is cheaper than the UK (about the only thing!). What are your petrol prices like Jennie?

Go on Nick.... We've had French, some Irish... now for some Shetland.. please!!

[quote]What are your petrol prices like Jennie?QUOTE]

£1.10 pence a litre for unleaded petrol - and thats an offer at the moment.
One garage doesn't even bother putting the prices up any more its that bad! I tend to just fill up and hand over the plastic and not look.

I say we are the most expensive - that was in newspaper article recently which tried to value the environmental and educational benefits of living here against the cost of living.
