I think we should try to have it all. You don't have to be a certain age or go round dressed in dungarees & wellies all the time to be a gardener & you don't have to go out dressed to the nines & get slaughtered every night to 'have a life'. Going back to the original prezzie idea I asked for ladybird, bee & bug boxes for last Christmas & would love either a bigger garden with wildlife pond or Alan Titchmarsh kept in a cupboard so I could open it & ask him questions when I needed (failing that Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt or Thierry Henry for emergencies!).

No but they all look like they're good with their hands (for digging I mean!) & feet in Thierry's case & Brad Pitt is into landscaping & design, at least he was before he got into Angelina Jolie's clutches.

Oh, what a hard one ! I suppose it depends on who's paying and the spend limit.

Money no object I would definatly go for a working smallholding with a pretty chocolate box cottage.

If not a newer car!!

New contents for my wardrobe!! ( I have a large waldrobe!)

A shed - (pref not new!)

A new pair of wellies (mine stolen!)

Or a pair of brown pointed boots

But I would be more than happy with a subscription to Grow Your Own, although I do really enjoy my monthly chat with my newsagent about how her vegetables are getting on.

A long list I know,
But with a house, two children, two allotments and a large garden I don't have the chance to spoil myself. But then who does?

And we're modest as well, not attention seekers although we do deserve it.

A hybrid potting shed/greenhouse/polytunnel where I could go and escape the weather but still be able to potter around the flowers and veggies. And a helicopter so I could nip down to the shops and pick up a paper (not very green but then it's never going to happen!!).

A helicopter with the 'Flying Gardener' Chris Beardshaw in it, he's quite cute, that would be nice!

Chris Beardshaw annoys me, don't know what it is about him but he feels and looks smarmy, really hate his programmes, they never do anything for me but if he's top tottie, then who am I to argue maybe we could reprise Rachel de Thame too....where has she gone....boo hoo

Rachel's very pretty but she keeps disappearing to have babies! I think you might see her around again though soon Andrewo as she did a feature in the Times newspaper the other week.

Rachel having more children! She makes my OH sick, beautiful, good with her hands, fertile...my OH refers to her as 'that gardening cow'. I liked her when she was an actor too...

Mother Nature is always pregnant and we don't complain. Why does Rachel have to disappear? I would be quite happy to see a mummified lady working in the garden and then she could carry her baby in a papoose on her back.
Celebrate procreation is my vote. Another thing I can't understand is why so many people object to mothers breastfeeding in public. If Page three in a national newspaper is ok then why is a baby feeding so disturbing?

I think the reasone she disappears is probably down to the fact the are worried if anything happened thay might be liable Jax. It's the sorry state of things these days!

As to breast feeding - I don't feel as though I am equiped to comment really

Seriously, people are strange aren't they. As you say, they will look at page 3 but find breastfeeding objectionable. & i'm sure there are other things as well

I agree, anytime a celebrity is pregnant they cart them off, come on I grew up with the Janet Ellis debacle (sure she was pregnant, sure she was a Blue Peter presenter, sure she was unmarried, sure she was carrying Sophie Ellis Bextor but she has paid for this by having that child!). I am disgusted that in this day and age that we are unable to come to terms with women being pregnant on TV, what happens to gardeners when they become pregnant, are they not allowed to garden for nine months? I once tried to tell my sister not to decorate during her six month, she nearly killed me with a paint brush. Hormones are in flux, gardening gives back equilibrium, let her garden pregnant, she could even drop on TV....now as you can see dahlias droop and need plenty of water, oh god, oh god, my waters broken, just stay with me, to stop the droop, get a cane and plant in the soil a foot deep, what do you mean it's crowning? I've not finished yet...

i don't think gardenings sad and i'm 18. i used to do loads with both sets of grandparents ever since i was little and finally decided to start growing my own veg and flowers this year with the help of mum - its our little project, although she calls it mine she has more of a say in what i'm doing than she thinks and i can't wait until it all grows (if it does!)

You do see pregant presenters on TV though... I'll often sit there and say to my OH - oh, she's pregnant. And there was the one in Atomic Kitten who was heavily pregnant when they did the video to 'The Tide is High'. Can't really speak on the gardening programs though as I don't really notice there. With the exception of when Kirsty in Ground Force was pregant - she kept working.

Having been pregnant before (and hoping to be again before this year is out) I can sympathise with your sister Andrewo... It would wind me up when people would tell me off for bringing shopping in from the car on my own when I was pregnant. I know people mean it with the absolute best of intentions, but most Mums-to-be will know when they need to stop for a bit and it's more the repetion of hearing it that winds us up.

Heck, I fell down our stairs when I was pregant. Didn't dare call my OH as I knew he'd make me stay at home and when I turned up at work hobbling, they had a go at me, but you know... most of us know when we've done damage to ourselves etc, and it's all about being sensible. No harm came to my little boy through my activities.

Does worry me about getting an allotment though - everyone's opinion (including OH) that I shouldn't go down the allotment when pregant or with new baby... Ho hum

Oh, my wish? To be either more space-sensible to get all my fruit and veg crops into my garden, or get past the time-worry about having an allotment
