| Has anyone ever tried growin Ginger? I have a piece of root ginger which has sprouted a green shoot. I realise that i probably won't be able to grow enough of the rhizome to make it worth growing for culinary reasons but just thought it might make an interesting conversation piece.

| I'm growing some Whigger but it's only 6" high. It's in a pot in the conservatory in the shade of the chillies. I'm not expecting to see miracles but might get something worthwhile in a couple of years. Do read Mat's post, it's quite informative.

| I'm growing ginger from a root i purchased at the local super market..... i simply tied it into a plastic bag and left it by the window under it started to turn green and produce tiny shoots. I've popped that into the mini greenhouse and i now have a lovely shoot. |

| I bought some ginger from B&Q last year, but it rotted horribly in the pot when I planted it out. I might have planted it too deep, but it didn't have any shoots on it at all so I was a bit suspicious ... I have a bit now which I got from sainsburys which has just developed a small green shoot. I will be potting it up and keeping it indoors to see what happens.
