  • Maggots/caterpillars in apples

I picked a load of Katy Apple's yesterday only to discover quite a few had small slightly orange looking maggots or caterpillars in the core. Exteriors had a small hole. What are they and how do I prevent them next season?

The tree is an espalier if that is useful to know. I have a Lord lamborne but they are not ready so not sure yet if there will be same issue.

Thanks in advance for any advice...

It could be codling moth larvae? There’s a link here about them & another link from this forum with info on making some DIY traps & interesting info -
