  • Growing chillies from frozen seed

I forgot to keep any chillies out for seed-collection. Has anyone grown chillies from seed from chillies they have frozen?

I have. The last of my scotch bonnet didn't germinate this year. So out of desperation I got some seeds out of one of last years harvest from the freezer. They've germinated really well. All I have to do know is wait and see if they grow true or if they crossed with one of its neighbors ( I didn't isolate the plant ).

Yes...SP did a couple of weeks ago - no problems with germination.

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I think SP meant that they might have crossed with one of its neighbours (which wasn't necessarily a chilli). It could have been a bean or a lamb chop or a fish. Isn't that how Fish chilli was produced?

You realise of course that the chillis won't be hot.

Keep them in your fruit bowl and you could end up with all kinds of chillies.

This explains a lot; I wondered where the Aji Pineapple, Mango, Lemon, Pumpkin etc. varieties came from.
