  • Early Long Purple Aubergines

I have grown these for the first time, in an unheated greenhouse. Crop looks great but it is difficult to know when to harvest. I started trying a few weeks ago but found the fruits were very green inside; advice on web suggested this was solanum and could make people ill. I've left them until the skins seem more brown than shiny purple but the inside is still green. Any advice welcomed.

I grow long purple aubergines and the flesh always has a very slight greenish hue. I've never thought of it as a problem.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps I should not have worried. I probably would not have worried until I saw a report that the green colour was solanum (the nightshade poison) and that it would make some people ill.

Me and the husband are eating Black Beauty and the inside is defiantly greener than shop brought if that helps...
