  • Transplanting blueberries from pots into raised beds

My plan if feasible is to dig out 30 cm of a smallish raised bed. Then put a barrier of plastic weed suppressant around it then fill with ericaceous compost mixed with pine needles and rotted leaf mould. The transplant 4/5 blueberries into this bed and top the bed up yearly.

Has anyone done a similar thing with good results

Is that 30cm deep or 30cm wide? I think they could do with a wider space than 30cm. Have a look at number one regarding pine needles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYX-lTFLGhI

I built two small (3'x3') beds for my blueberries and acidified the soil with iron sulphate. Made a planting hole filled with ericaceous compost and planted out the blueberries, lingon berry and cranberries. I'll treat it with garden sulphur in the autumn and spring to keep the acidity.

Give them a really good soak before you move anything,I would get some good ericaceous compost, and put them in at least three foot apart, a really good soak again with a feed of Ericaceous fertiliser, when I transplanted my blueberries they didn't seem to realise they had been moved, and grew away strongly. Give them good soil/ feed and water and they will be happy, they just want to grow..

Same with mine - they just keep getting bigger. I didn't bother with any membrane though, just dug out the soil and refilled with ericacious compost. I've 3 blueberries, a lingonberry and a wintergreen in a bed made in my border.
