  • Grapes - what can I do with them

I have a large grapevine in the garden that produces lots of fruit each year, and every year the fruit is left on the vine. I'm sure it's not good enough for wine but too good to be wasted like this!

Thin each truss by 1/3 to 1/2 of its fruit so the rest grow big then use it for wine!

Have you ever tried any of the grapes - are they sweet desert type or a sour wine type?
The weeks and the years are fine. It's the days I can't cope with!

      Thanks TPeers.

We have never tasted any of them. They don't grow very big but there are always plenty of them.

When should they be thinned out?

Wine making would be good but I don't have much time. Any other ideas?

To thin grapes - get a sharp pointed pair of scissors and snip the unwanted fruit off! Just reduce so that air can circulate.

As to time - purists might say that it should be done in stages starting at fruit set and carrying on until........ but my understanding is that you can do it any time up until you pick! Earlier is better cause the remaining fruit have time to grow (dur... )

... what else to do with them.....

        Not a clue! Eat them!
