  • Blueberries - how much room?

T&M have a good offer on blueberries at the mo. Three different varieties bought as one 'lot' for a long season crop.

I know blueberries can be grown in pots but I can't find anywhere that says just how big they'll get. I've already gone a bit mad cramming things into my rather petite garden, so don't want to be silly if they're going to get REALLY big.

Can anyone give me an idea? The varieties are Blueberry Brigitta, Blueberry Chandler and Blueberry Earliblue (not sure if different types get to different heights/widths?).

    Any advice much appreciated!

If the bushes like the conditions they can get up to 4-6' high and will need about 5' between bushes. Some varieties are less vigourus but still need space.

Ah, ok! Perhaps better to just stick with one then!

Thanks very much for the advice

Ratty has told you it all I think! You do need to be a subscriber to their email offers to benefit.

Good advice about pollinating partners, thanks!

Just noticed last night that the next issue of Gardener's World mag will have a free blueberry bush offer. You just pay P&P (£3.95, I think). Of course you have to add the cost of the mag but if you get it anyway, it's not a bad deal.

Really, what's generally their periodic theme?

Gift ideas... fruit baskets or gardening kit?
