  • Pumpkin Advice

    Hiya

I'm growing pumpkins in my allotment and they are coming along brilliantly. They have lots of space and seem to like the moist soil they are in.

One of the allotmenters near me said that in order to get a bigger pumpkin I need to get rid of some of the 'shoots' that are starting to show which I assume is where the pumpkins come as this will make a bigger pumpkin as all the energy is concentrated on just one?

Is this the case that a pumpkin plant can produce more than one and I should nip off some of the buds?

    Many Thanks

    Katie

Are you growing them to eat, or to win a competition?

I only grow for the table, so I want smaller fruits that make 2 or 3 meals at a time, and like Crannman says, just leave them to get on with it, no special treatment

Not sure if similar but I saw something about melons that said to take all other shoots off other than 4 fruits as they drain the energy and the fruit wont grow as big. Seems logical lol
