  • New blackcurrants

I've grown several blackcurrant bushes from cuttings, they are about 18 inches high, I'd like to pass them on to a young couple on our allotments, is now a good time to dig them up and pass them on? Will they get a crop next year?

No I'd wait til the leaves have fallen. If you have to move them now, you will need to dig as big a rootball as you can and they will need a lot of watering.

Nothing should be moved in the heat of summer: the leaves will transpire faster than the roots can take up water.
