  • Tricky calabrese.

    Well Green Magic calabrese actually.

First pic looks like a head of calabrese. Second one shows the truth the secondary florets picked from one plant.

    Brassica's looking good this year.

Cant grow blasted calabrese for love nor money! They always flower.
Funny, I read on another site someone recommending Green Magic from Unwins so I got some seeds only last weekend. I sowed a few directly in the tunnel border, whereas I always sowed in modules before. Maybe the transplanting was the problem?
The packet says it's too late but I wonder is there still time if they are undercover?

I've had good results from 'Ironman' this year, I usually do 'Marathon' but it's never been that great despite apparently being 'the most popular' variety.

I might give them a go next year. Brassicas are very hard to grow well here, they get every pest going and our soil is too light for them really.
I grow a couple of PSB to keep my hand in, haven't ever tried summer calabrese

Green Magic seem to be a quick grower.

My log for this year 'not the best as we all know' reads. 14/03 seed in modules to GH, 25/03 100% germination, 06/04 to 3inch pots, 21/04 to final container, 15/06 first harvest. and yesterday first florets.

I always grow Belstar F1. They have worked for me in he past and seem to be in good fettle this year..........all 40 plants! No florets yet but plants look healthy.

I've become an admirer of your notes so 3 months. Worth a try for a late crop I think.
