  • Planting out courgettes

I am planting out my courgettes, pumpkins and Butternuts this weekend, should I be putting anything under them, like manure or compost.

They're both very greedy. If you dug a bucket full of rotted manure or compost into the planting hole they'd love it.

... Also if you sink an upturned 2l plastic bottle with the bottom cut off next to them when you plant - you'll be able to water (or feed) directly to the plants roots.

Mine have benefited from being under fleece at night time these last two nights, they were struggling with growth but must have doubled on size these last few days.

Just watch the weather - cold north wind over the next few days across the whole country. They won't like that. Mine are under fleece again at the moment and will stay under it in the day as well until at least Saturday morning.

The wind is very cold in Devon too, I'm not sure how to add a location on the app :-( I can not believe how much they have grown since being fleeced.

mine are tucked in every night. Green penned in planting out on Saturday, alongside everything else. Now I'm not so sure.

My courgettes, squashes and pumpkins have all gone outside, planted directly into well rotted manure. I have placed some large plastic bottle cloches over some of the smaller ones and they're all doing ok so far. Then again I am in the deep south of England

Last year was a total failure on all my pumpkins so fingers crossed for better success this year. I'm growing a few different varieties to try and appease the kids. Halloween is keenly supported in my town.
