  • quick query about chillies and peppers

Hello all, the other day I was pricking out me seedlings and transplanting them to bigger pots and I noticed something that you lot might be able to answer...

The majority of my peppers and seedlings have popped up and developed into healthy little critters, but some of them have put up a shoot with a seed at the end of it, and then instead of two little leaves bursting out of the seed they've not got any further, why is this? I have a feeling this check in growth maybe related to a drop in temperature but I can't be sure. Does any one else know? It doesn't really matter, I have more than enough chilli and pepper seedling -drowning in them in fact.

    thanks
    Caroline

Sometimes the husks are quite strong and strangle the cotyledons in their cribs!

I had this with one of my chilli seedlings the other year here's the thread :-

I was told to keep on wetting the seed head and eventually it will be easy to lift of.

You can sometimes squeeze the shell to help it off, but generally it falls off naturally.
