  • Dividing Rhubarb - too late?

My rhubarb crown has about 5 shoots showing. It's quite a big crown, could probably be divided into 5 or 6 small crowns, but I'd rather split it into 2 for now and more later.
Is it too late to divide it?

Best time to divide rhubarb is when it's dormant.

Having said that, you should get away with doing it now. As you'll have to dig the root up to divide it you might as well split into four or five sections now rather than wait till later.

Replant the divisions straight away, and don't harvest from them this year.

Or, let it grow this year and freeze some for next year and then divide it next winter.
