  • Asparagus from seed

    Hi everyone,

Pretty new to the allotment and my first post too!

I have 40 or so asparagus plants, each in a 6" pot in my allotment greenhouse. They were grown from seed and potted April/May 2012.

I intend to keep them potted in the greenhouse until April/May 2013.

What do I need to do now?

Should I cut them back, if so when?

    Do the need feeding/compost/mulch adding?

Will they be ok when transplanting?

    Thanks for any advice

Welcome to the Vine Dwane - could you add your location to your profile please. Then it will show up on your posts and help with the rest of us giving advice.

As for your asparagus plants, cut the ferns back when they go yellow. I wouldn't feed or mulch at all as they shouldn't be growing at this time of the year.

I grew mine from seed, and when planting out just knock them out of the pots and plant into your prepared bed. They will need planting with the top of the compost about 3 inches below the level of the soil.
