    Hi got loads of plums and the jam didn't worK What can I do with them.....

      Can not eat any more........tried jam it won't set (thought plum jam was easy) but aparently not. I had visions of lots of pretty jars on the shelf, all Ive got is a sticky mess

        What did you do to make your jam? Talk us through it and lets see if we can work out what went wrong.

        Did you get it to setting point before jarring?

          gently boiled plums (with stones and lemon juice) till skins were soft. Added 1lb sugar to same plums boiled strongly. Put some on cold plate ......looked as if it was going to set, jared it up. Did not set so boiled again (wasps in love with my kitchen) as suggested on here. Went a dark sticky colour and tasted horrid. Got a load more to do now eeek

                I go for the same weight of sugar to fruit - so perhaps that's the problem. And I remove the stones.

                  send them to me .... i had just 2 plums on my victoria plum tree and one of those shrivelled up and died before it was ready ....

                  or slice them, stone them, freeze them, use them for plum crumble whenever you want ....

                    yep same weight of fruit to sugar, thought the stones added the pectin?
                    freezer full, crumble in oven as we speak, I want Jammmmmmmm not runny gunk argh

                      How about Pickled plums? I used to make it and it was great with cheese or cold meats. Don't have the recipe anymore but it would have been something like this
                      Pickled Plums | Pickled Plums Recipe | Pickles, Jam and Preserves
                      There are lots of versions, sweet or salty, depending on your tastebuds.
