  • Jam making from frozen berries?

    Hiya everyone
I have been saving my blackberries in the freezer as ive been picking them I have just been given some apples from my hubbys uncles garden now so I am ready to make some Jam, the recipe calls for 2lb of blackberries so as mine are frozen would this still be the same weight, more or less
The recipe I have got calls for the blackberries and apples to be covered with just enough water to cover and simmer until soft, so would I still need to add the water or not so much
Sorry for all the questions if you hadn't guessed its my first time making jam

You could let the blackberries defrost, strain off the liquid and use that to cover the fruit. I find frozen fruit has more ice liquid than just juice - BUT I'm not an expert jam maker
I'm sure an expert will be along soon

If my fruit has been frozen I don't defrost it first . I'd probably start the apples off and then bung in the blackberries . Be a bit on the stingy side with the water as well ........
S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

          Thanks VC and Binley
Binley should I just weigh out 2lb or add a bit extra due to them being frozen xx

I think with a smallish quantity like 2lb it won't make much difference either way Lulubelle. Little tip for the future - weigh your fruit before freezing and pack in tubs marked with the fresh weight

It took me a while to figure that out for myself ~ now it's second nature to weigh and write on everything before it goes in the freezer. Saves a lot of frustration and guesswork
