  • Sinlge Basil plant in a pot?

I've got lots of Sweet Basil plants, purple and green which i've sown quite a few seeds per pot.

I've always let them as a clump of plants in the past but wondered, if I were to thin them and plant up a single plant to a pot would it bush up and fill a little pot or would i just end up with a single stem as they are now?

    Thanks in advance.

I've got a pot that I was given with two plants in . Even though I've been pinching out there's no way they'll fill the pot .

You can grow them either way - they just grow to bushier single plants. One year I even succeeded in splitting a multi-stem bought pot up and planting singly - that was a few summers ago!

if you pinched out the tip it would become bushier, but it would still be a single stemmed plant.

Yep, you need to pinch the top out and it will bush out Mine are looking a bit sad this year, I don't think they are a big fan of cold damp weather.

Greek basil is smaller leaved and shrubbier - that grows well in a pot.

If you pinch the top out pop it into some water soon it will grow roots then you'll have a new plant to pot up.
