What ate my carrots?

My carrot seedlings have vanished. Second attempt and as soon as they go outside they disappear. What's eating them? slugs? And what is the solution - to cover them? They are baby carrots and are in a container.

Me too. We've planted some in a container which we'll be hiding from the blighters. Might have a third and final go at sowing into the plot, spraying with garlic and surrounding with ash, but I'm not hopeful.

To temper any loo roll enthusiasm, after my first planting about ten plant survived and were looking pretty good -- big and strong. Then the slugs noticed their mistake and mowed them down too.

Never had problems with carrots before...
