  • Desparately Seeking Asparagus

Well LARAC Asparagus to be precise. Today I tried some asparagus given to me by a friend. These are the sweetest and most tender asparagus I have ever tasted (and I love my asparagus). It is a variety called LARAC - an old French variety. I spent about an hour on the net trying to find seeds/crowns.plants in pots but nothing. Plenty of recognition that LARAC is one of the best. Does ANYBODY know where I can find some???? Or does anybody have a bed of LARAC Asparagus that they would be willing to give/sell/donate a little of.

I have my own saved white french bean seed available. It is a large seeded variety which we grew to dry for casseroles, bean bakes and the like. They have been excellent for this. So if anybody wants some just ask.
To have expectations is to invite disappointment. View each moment with clear eyes and see the gift that is given to you.

Couldn't find any suppliers, but found this article which suggests that established asparagus crowns can be divided. http://www.uaex.edu/Other_Areas/publ...f/FSA-6002.pdf Maybe ask your friend if he/she is prepared to donate you a crown?

I was surprised to find that some people recommend dividing asparagus crowns after 5 years to thin out the growing points and keep it more productive (in the long term). I suppose its the same idea as dividing rhubarb and othe perennials, but it wouldn't have occurred to me.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
      Now a little Shrinking Violet.

Link to french company that seems to breed and supply (prob large scale) perhaps a french speaker can find out some more info on who they supply (ie smaller nurseries etc) its difficult to find any info on Larac, I had heard of it nice to know it lives up to its reputation.
