  • Chillies and spice packs

I grow my own chillies, I even tried some Dorset Naga off ebay , they grew OK but were slow. They do have chillies on but not turned red yet. I might try and over winter them, anyone tried this with Dorset naga?
I think they are bit hot

    Ooh err missus !
I might try them out on the wife first, just to be on the safe side.

Anyway I digress, to the main point...
I have chillies but my spices are always out of date. Does any one know of a source of a spice selection. Like

But more normal like corriander cummin etc.

Not tried with D.N. but I have overwintered a few chillies before - once the leaves had dropped off I pruned them back to the main stems.. come spring they grew back with great vigour.

The short day lengths won't help them grow - they'll go dormant.

You can pick the chillies and bring them inside to ripen up, I'll find a link about it two ticks..

        Thanks
I am surprised the pound shops don't sell a mixed pack of spices, just enough for one or two currys.

Hi Jimmy - do you have any local asian shops? They sell loads of spices, and much cheaper and fresher than the supermarkets.

Yes we have a good shop but they sell largish bags which go to waste.
I get spices for a curry and have to buy, say, 4 or five different bags. Costs around £5
Next time I do a curry the spices have faded.
Much better to just buy what I need.

^^^ Like Taff said, empty the spices into jars and store in a cupboard - they keep for ages.
