  • growing garlic from seed

    Hello all,
I have always grown my garlic from cloves, but this year my garlic went to seed. The seeds are not tiny and black, as most links on t'internet tell me, but look like tiny, tiny cloves, about the size of an apple seed, and purple-ish in colour .
I have collected some seed, but I don't know when to plant them....do I do it now, as if planting the cloves?
    Help!

They are tiny tiny cloves, and yes you can plant them. I don't think you will get as fast a response as when you plant large cloves, but you will get something [hopefully]. I usually put them into a pot, and once they have grown on a bit, plant them in the ground.

Yes, but I wouldn't rely on them totally for net year's garlic! Have some in reserve....

How did they do? I have some seeds collected from the wild but have probably missed my "slot" for planting them this year.

Not necessarily. Whilst garlic requires a frost to split, should still be able to plant. Think the window is right up to the end of Novemeber.

Do you mean Wild garlic, Arkdove? Or Garlic cloves?
