  • Just like branston pickle... with plums

Someone asked about my sisters Branston like pickle.. here is the recipe:

    Major Marshaall's Chutney

    1 lb8 oz Plums
    2 garlic cloves chopped
    12oz onions skinned and sliced
2 lbs red tomatoes peeled and sliced
1 half pints of malt vinegar
2lbs 8 oz cooking apples cored and chopped
8 oz stoned dates or dried apricots
    8 oz golden syrup
    8oz Demera sugar
    1 oz salt
1 1/2 level tbsps pickling spice, tied in muslin

    (Yield: about 5lb)

Wipe the plums, halve, and discard the stones. Put the plums and all the other ingredients in a large pan, bring to the boil, reduce the heat, and simmer uncovered until the ingredients are soft and well reduced. There should be little loose liquid. Remove the muslin bag. Pot and cover.

do you think this would work with cherry plums? I picked rather a lot of them...actually, I might try cooking them on their own first.
