  • Too late for Salsify/scorzonera and kale?

One of the packets says early spring, online it says if your climate is moderate, early autumn....? (Salsify/scorz) If I plant now will it be ready next spring?
I forgot to do kale, is it too late or can I get away with it??
    Thanks xx

I'll be putting in more kale (a different sort) for overwinter growing this coming week. (The type I have in at present I use for baby salad leaves.)
I'll also be resowing to fill gaps in my salsify and scorzonera next week. The first seeds I sowed about three weeks ago.
From what I read, and my previous experience with salsify, I'd expect to get slightly smaller roots that will do for spring use, not to mention the leaves. (I'm also going to sow a couple somewhere convenient to let them go to seed.) They don't go all woody in the middle over winter - unlike carrots and parsnips if you leave them too long - so they will still be edible then. If you can get them out of the ground !
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

Thanks Snohare, this has reminded me to sow some more kale this weekend.
