blackfly on squashes and white moths on brassicas

Hi all have been into OH's garden today and found lots of blackfly (adults and eggs) on undersides of leaves on the sqaushes and beans. I also found lots of tiny white moths, could not find eggs but crushed some of the moths - there are loads of them though!

What effect do these have on plants, and does anyone know an organic way to get rid?

Look around the Pest forum BT, you'll find lots of advice, which are in a nutshell:

- squishing
- blasting
- bathing with soft soap
- spraying with a garlic dressing
- repelling with marigolds
- planting sacrificials eg nasturtiums

oh, and of course attracting beneficial insects like ladybirds, but I think you've already said that you don't get any where you are ...?

this is in OH's garden near southwold, right out in the sticks. no ladybirds as yet, although they might be lurking about. i'm about to spray them off as all the plants are very big and strong and will see how we get on
