  • Urgent Asparagus info needed

Hi all, I got my asparagus crowns delivered yesterday. I was out all day/evening so didn't have a chance to do anything with them apart fro wrap them up in bubble wrap and put them in the shed overnight.
With the weather as it is what's the best thing to do with them? I've got the trench dug to plant them in I'm just worried about it being a bit too cold as you're only supposed to put a covering of soil over them and wait to put some more on until they've grown through that. I've thought about putting a double layer of fleece over the top of the trench. Will that be enough to protect them?

That will be fine. ( I presume they aren't sprouting yet?)

Just make sure the roots (crowns) don't dry out. When you say "a covering", you can actually put a few inches of soil over them, just like planting seed potatoes. If the roots are healthy the shoots will find their way through.
