  • Picking Apples

    Hi

Last autumn we planted a fruiting hedge of apples and pears using upright cordons. The tree have grown well and most of the apples have fruited although the pears were caught by a late frost.

We have picked and eaten a reasonable number of apples as they became ready. We now have just a single apple left on the Bramley out of 5 and several apples on a Jumbo and lots on a Fiesta. None of these seem to be ready for picking. Both the later varieties are described as September/October fruiting. Do I leave these to mature on the tree? They are still firmly attached. We have already had several air frosts.

    Regards

    John

Im not an expert on apple trees but they should come off when you twist them around a couple of times.

      Thanks for the reply.

I've done as recommended, lift and twist and this has sufficed up to now. Last night I tried a lot harder but they are still stuck firm.
