  • Do gooseberries continue to ripen after picking?

left a few lying in the kitchen for a few days whilst i decided what i wanted to do with them. and i swear blind they are redder than they were when i picked them! does anyone know if they continue to ripen after being harvested?

Yes, Mr Z picked a load of green ones and proudly told me - however they are Pax so are supposed to be red.

They turned red a couple of weeks later and are currently sitting behind me, all mashed up in my Rasp and Strawb wine in a bucket fermenting

Never really thought about it, but I suppose they would. After all, bananas do, and tomatoes do, and pears do, etc. etc.

        Yes- most definately!

I used to work in a fruit and veg shop during my hols- and peeps often used to forget a bag of this or that- and we used to put them under the counter until they returned to collect their forgotten purchases.
Most certainly gooseberries ripen after picking....after 2 weeks in the dark in a paper bag, they are very very sweet and yummy!
