Black flies on rhubarb and green flies on lettuce!

Hi all

Could anyone help me with a solution on how to prevent and cure green flies from crawling over my lettuce and black flies on my rhubarb. They are both covered in them, both stems and leaves of my rhubarb.

I have tried soapy water tonight and will see how they react to this in the morning.

Sounds like aphids. Soapy water may help, but I find that squishing the first few as soon as you see them is a better idea. You can also blast them off with a water spray - that would be OK for your rhubarb, but the lettuce might not appreciate it.
