  • netting cherries

Year 3: we have fruit set. Quite a lot and we're feeling pleased.

Now, we know the birds have an eye for a cherry, so we've attempted to net. We've put loops of netting about each branch with cherries on. However, the birds aren't to be put off and have scoffed the lot anyhow.

    Drat.

So, how does one protect cherries?

It really depends on how big the tree is. I grow espaliered cherry trees at the back of my netted fruitcage. If the tree is too big then try a cheap mosquito net enclosing some of the branches, closed off with clothes pegs.
Get a kite in the shape of a bird of prey!!!
