  • Mouldy grapes

I have a mature grapevine in my conservatory which has produced lots of lovely sweet grapes for the 4 years I've been in the house. This year a white powdery mould began to grow on the leaves very early on and it is now destroying the grapes which are well formed but appear to be just withering away under the mould. Any ideas what this might be or what might have caused it? Can I tackle this mid season and save any of the grapes? How do I stop it happening again? Yours confounded and very hopeful for advice

I'm no expert with grapes as I have only been growing them for my 2nd year now. What I do know though is they need an open structure for the air to circulate to stop disease taking form. Would you say the leaves look quite densely packed? Very low air flow in the conservatory?

As for what it is- I don't know. Maybe powdery mildew. Some one with more knowledge maybe able to give some better advice.

I agree with SMT - treat with anti-mould spray, then lop off some of the leaves to increase circulation, and if you can, put in a fan/window vent to avoid high humidity and increase air-flow through the vine...
