If bough bare-root then as soon as you get it.

If in a pot then provided you are prepared to water it in the dry then whenever you like.

Now would be a good time though, should be semi-dormant and will romp away from a pre-prepared planting place, well enriched with rotted manure.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

got two big pieces from a in a swap deal this week. Am waiting for dawn then off to get some bags of poo and planting them today.

i've had them in the shed under some compost til i could get sorted and they're sprouting already.

Catch up with my daily doings at http://kaypeesplot.blogspot.com/ and http://kaypeeslottie.blogspot.com/ but wait a while cos these are well out of date ! Don't want to ditch them entirely cos I'll never remember the urls !

Now, if you've got one. The usual advice is to dig up an established crown during the winter, leave on the surface of the soil to get chilled, cut into as many sections as it will take (you need at least one growing bud per section) and plant the sections in early spring. Well dug and manured ground is preferable, and don't crop for the first year.
