  • little yellow plums- mirabelle?

i have a lovely plum tree which was here when i moved in- it has sweet and juicy fruit the colour of an apricot and about the size of cherry tomatoes or a dansom. i think it is called a mirabelle plum. i ussually graze as i pass, but this year i want to use as much fruit as i can, so just wondered if anyone knows whether this plum is suitable for freezing or turning into jams or jellies/ thank you for your help ( someone told me they arreent suitable)

It makes brilliant jelly, jam, wine and chutney. If you freeze them before use, you'll find that when they thaw, the stones just pop out when you squeeze them. I also found the skins discoloured when they thawed. Happily, they pop off too! Lucky you. We have to walk quite a way to find them near us, growing in an old hedge.

You can get them in red and yellow, I thought of getting one this year but opted for a greengage and damson instead.

We collect them in both colours but I keep them separate them for red jelly and yellow jelly!

( but I'm going to wait until the Autumn so they have more chance of survival!)
