  • Leeks or Spring Onions?

I have grown leeks in a small pot, and spring onions in a small pot - and, you have guessed it forgotten to label either. I knew what I had potted at the time! and would remember!! But as I spend most days trying to remember my children's names, and have moved pots between propagators and windowsills they seem to have got mixed up after all.
At what stage will I be able to tell one from the other?

    If I recall.....

Spring onion leaves tend to look more tubular and a richer green colour
Leek leaves tend to be flatter and more of a sort of grey/sage colour.
Can you post any piccies so we can all have a guess?

Yep, onions have round leaves, leek flat.

Although at seedling stage it really is hard to tell.

I'd break one leaf and smell it; leeks really have that distinctive leeky smell from quite early on.

I had a packet of spring onions last year, White Lisbon I think, that all turned out to be leeks!
