we have a hu-mung-ous sweet chestnuts tree at the front of work....the spikey husks have started to crack but the nuts seem very small and crappy again this year!! is it a bad year?

They are not normally ready for a couple of weeks...we opened some fallen ones on sunday and found the same as you. Try again in a few weeks (about october 20th I think as it's my anniversary and they seem to be ready then!)
