  • Polytunnel Tomatoes

    I am a new gardener and have just constructed a polytunnel on my plot in which i have grown a few tomato plants.Although the plants have flourished with plenty of tomatoes when they ripen the all seem to develo cuts in the skins?????Can somebody help please!

    I've read that that happens when they dry out then get lots of water so grow quickley and the skins cant keep up with the insides

      The above answer is correct......if you let the compost or soil dry out and then water heavily the take up by the tomato is simply to severe and the skin stretches and eventually splits.

      Watering should be done on a consistent basis....if growing medium drys out compensate slowly.
