There's a whole section at the botom left of this page that covers seed saving.

I think the only seeds that I now buy are carrots, parsnips, sweetcorn & brassicas.
I save everything else from my own plants (even spuds, although I buy different ones to try each year)

Last year I saved tomatoes and peas.

Tomato plants making very slow progress.

Only one pea plant germinated so far, after several weeks.

I saved peas last year, and would have saved more if the crops had been better. For now I'm concentrating on vegatative reproducers such as garlic and self-fertilising plants - peas, French beans, tomatoes - as I don't have the space to isolate cross-breeding varieties. Perhaps in future I'll graduate to the trickier stuff!

I don't go out of my way to save seed as I always seem to have enough packet stuff. For instance I have sown all my carrots for this year and still have at least 6 unopened packets in the seed box, which will be more than enough for next year. I purchased a pint of feltham first peas for £1:20 and there is enough for at least 3 years. So generally I don't go out of my way to save seeds. However when I take the bean sticks down I can't bring myself to throw away the seed left on the plants.

As many of the regulars on here will knowm, I'm an obsessive seed saver and also involved in several of the seed saving/guardian schemes - lots of good advice on the Garden Organic and RHS sites btw.

I keep anything that I can and usually let one or two plants that I 'specialise' in run to seed so I can get a crop the following year - hence the reason I never grow F1 or even F2 varieties.

ATM, I have trays of squashes and tomatoes germinated from last year's seeds, loads of French climbers and dwarfs coming through, all in all, a good way of saving seeds/saving money.
