Do Parsnips need full sun or can they handle part / full shade?

Hi, I think they prefer full sun but they should be okay in part shade.

So long as the plot is not in complete shade they should be fine.

And your hands begin to harden.

          Parsnips

Mine are coming through beautifully. Trouble is, they are what didn't germinate last year, and are under the cloche where the broad beans are. ha, ha!

Ok, thanks. The last spot I have in the garden is almost full shade, so I probably won't have much luck with them there.

Unless, how well does garlic grow in full shade?

Hmm, I'm growing salad in a tub this year, so that would only free up a tub which is only about 20cm deep. Good tip though, if I grow some cos lettuce next year I might put it there.

I heard something (on the Vine, I think) about raspberries doing well in shade.

I suspect spinach would do OK in the shade (assuming you like it), since lettuce does - and you need to grow lots as it cooks down so much.
