dark brown patches on my butternuts

Dear All,

I harvested my butternuts today (17 fruits from 4 plants, very pleased) and noticed that some of them semto have dark brown circular patches on the skin (sorry, trying to get a photo up here, bear with me). Has anyone had this before? Can I still eat them, or should I discard the ones with this?

I've never come across this myself.
Could it possibly be rot?

If the markings are only on the surface, and not soft and rotten feeling then use them anyway.

Its a mud mark where they sat on the ground LOL
