  • Missing Pears

Hi, I have 4 Pear trees and up until this year gave a good crop but this year the fruit is virtually none existent. I live in Hull and last year as you may know Hull was flooded very badly this is the only thing I can think off that may have caused the problem. What do you think? Nobody.

Did you have a frost during blossom time?
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

It's been a bad year for top fruit. The mild winter made many trees blossom early and then a late frost damaged the embryo fruit. I'm in Sheffield and we had horrendous flooding last year too, but it doesn't seem to have affected trees such as Horse Chestnut, which all seem to be having a heavy crop, but which flower in May, so I don't think it will have had much real affect on fruit trees either. I think it's definitely more to do with the up-and-down weather we had in early spring.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
