Wild strawberries under apple trees

I have some plants that need planting out - can I plant them under my apple trees ?

However if I do how would I mulch in future or could I use fertilizer ?

Mulch what, the trees or the strawberries, trees usually don't need mulching?

And would the strawberries get enough sunlight under the trees (how many, how close together) to ripen properly, without sunlight they wont sweeten?

If you have something like raspberry canes or gooseberry bushes, I'd plant them under the soft fruit bushes.

I'd put Limnanthes under the fruit bushes. They attract hoverflies which eat aphids.

Wild strawberry is a woodland plant, so it doesn't need full sun. I have one growing in long grass and another behind an Aster (don't know how they got there) and they do fine ... not much fruit on a wild strawb, but they look pretty.

Mulches and fertilisers do different jobs. Your mulch conserves moisture and keeps down weeds, while your fertiliser feeds the plant.
