  • 'un- growing onions!

    Help please,
My oniions are 'un growing' they started to grow, but now look ill! tips of leaves yellowed and they are just not making more leaves or height. The bulb part is healthy and sound.....what am I doing wrong?
They are a red onion, grown from sets planted in the spring.

Could it just be that they are nearly ready for lifting? Are the bulbs a decent size?

How high are they? They may have finished putting on new leaf and are now swelling the bulbs.

Sounds like they are nearly ready for harvesting.

          Sorry I missed vital statistics

bulbs same size as when they went in (sets)
3" tall some with two pittyful leaves!
the bulbs seem firm and disease free!

No idea sorry Headfry. This is my first year growing onions and I was a bit late getting started. My seed grown ones are like tiny spring onions and the set ones are not doing much more than yours though they have more and taller leaves. My shallots look far more promising so I think I will stick to growing them next year.
