  • Leeks - what next?

    Hi everyone,
I've got some young leeks that are looking really good just about now, I was wondering if I need to earth them up to make the stems white... is this true?

i was told to make a hole with a broom handle about 10" deep and just dropped the leek in and filled the hole with water , the trick is not to fill the hole in with soil and this should blanch the leeks

I do as Roadkill suggests too, but you can also earth up, or place lengths of pipe cut to size over your leeks to blanch the stems.

or loo rolls; if you have any left.

I deliberately make my leek beds lower than the surrounding beds, and they pretty much do it themselves over time as the soil shifts around.
