  • Baby leeks

    Hi all,

I was given a pack of leek "Pandora" last year and did not get a chance to sow. Expiry date on the packet says August 07, I'm gonna try and sprout them on paper towel to see if they are OK. If seed is still viable, was wondering if I can grow them as baby leeks perhaps as I would not need so many mature plants?

    TIA

    Hi again.

Onion and allium seed usually last quite a while.

If you have a spare bit of land, you can just sow them direct and if they come up; either pull babies up and have them small - or thin and replant the thinnings somewhere else to grow on.

Leeks take ages to mature, and usually like it during the winter.

I would be tempted to try them now if you have that spare bit of land, and as the ground is clearing after harvest, move them into that ground for the winter.

thanks again zazen, I would do as you have suggested, have some as baby leeks, and replant the rest for winter harvest once my beds are ready
