  • pruning blueberries

    Hi
    After reading different books etc I am now confused
    I have two blueberry bushes (year old I think)
    Do I prune them if so how?
    Any help welcome

    HI Debs,

    If your blueberry bushes are only 1 year old, let it grow first ( it will only start to produce if it is older than 2 or 3 years and mine even take a bit longer than that).
    If it is older than 2 years, make sure you cut back the suckers but don't cut away the older branches ( the fruit are form on the older branch). Young new shoot ( not sucker ), let it grow to around 30cm or so then remove the growing tip ( if the branch grow too long, it will not be strong enough to hold fruit at the following year, sort of hanging down which we want to prevent) and remove the dead branches ( if any ).
