Default Sicilian snake seeds please

I'd dearly love to grow some of these this year. Also known as Cucuzzi or snake gourds. Does anyone have a couple of seeds spare?

I can swap heirloom tomatoes, beans and other squashes, as well as most other kinds of seed - just let me know what you're after!

Thanks

Default Cucuzze

They are like courgettes but the taste is far superior, they require quite a bit of attention and hand pollination is almost essential.

Don you kindly sent me two packets of seeds back last Autumn, so I have sent some out to a friend in Spain who grows veg out there. Hoping to see how they get on with them when we (hopefully) go out for a holiday. So that'll be your snakes growing from Shetland to Guaro (Malaga Province)!

Hi Jennie
the cucuzze seeds also went to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, USA and many other places thanks to Carboot sales and Ebay. It will be interesting to see each other results.

Nice to know that they are all yours Don. I must remember that they are cucuzze seeds (sounds like jacquzze - don't know how you spell that!)

Don sent me two packets too and I gave one to my Mum in Spain. So we'll be doing a proper international trial!

Hi,

Quick question, Don kindly send me some of these with instructions but I am not sure if they are best sown indoors or out?

What is everyone else doing?

Thanks, Mandy

Hello Mandy
Sow them indoors just like courgettes, remember that they don't like cold weather and easily killed by frost. I haven't started with mine yet or anything else yet beside pigletwillie banana shallots which are growing quite happily in a cold greenhouse. I start indoors sowing in a heated propagator on the first of march each year (tomorrow) and from then there is no stop!!!!!!! I will start my sicilian snake seeds on the 1st April but if you have a large greenhouse you could try some of the seeds in a heated propagator.
My best regards
Don Vincenzo

Thanks Don,

I will hold off until April as I really want to try these, I start them off indoors and gradually transfer them to the greenhouse before palnting out.

Where are you? I may need to start a few weeks later up here.

Thanks again, Mandy

I will probably try them from that sort of time here. I may even send some to my sister in Jersey. No point giving any to my folks as they are also in Jersey for the summer rather than Spain.

Well Don Vincenzo, you have just shattered my illusions. What with that kind of foreign name and the exotic Sicilian snake seed pic you posted i imagined you living somewhere like Spain or some other hot country.
Just goes to show the image a name can conjure up. :confused

Hello Bramble
sorry to have shattered your illusions but if it helps I am a Sicilian and the seeds come from there. It shows that many vegs can also be grown quite succefully in the UK.
My best regards
Don Vincenzo

Well don, i don't feel quite so bad now. I can hold on to some of my alusions.
i also visualise you as medium height, grey haired, a bit on the plump side with a tan complexion.
What an overactive imagination i have.
